Another one bites the dust. After trying to make her mark with her goody-goody image, Preeti Jhangiani of Mohabbatein fame has finally decided that if she has to make it, her clothes have to go. From the Chui Mui girl, Preeti next makes her big screen appearance as a sexy glam doll in Chahat - Ek Nasha , which releases this Friday.

After almost five years in the industry, you've decided to break your good-goody image. What's the provocation?

I have not decided anything like that. It is not like one day I woke up and decided that I would get sexy. I was offered a role to be a popstar and I took it up. I'm playing the character, and as an actress I'm here to do different kinds of roles.

So it was not a conscious decision to change your image?

It was not a conscious decision. I liked the script.

And it's also not because you have failed to make an impact so far?

Not at all. It's a wrong conception. My Indian image worked really well and the amount of fan following I have because of the Chui Mui Si image is tremendous. As far as this goes, I really like the story. Tomorrow if I do a de-glam role it's not because my glam image did not work. It's because I liked the

Aren't you afraid of losing your fans to this image then?

I'm not afraid of anything. I'm sure everyone will like the film. It's a film I'm going to be able to see with my family. I have not done anything that will shock my fans and as far as the kissing scene is concerned, I have done it in a ‘Rajashri’ video as well and no one was shocked.

So what's the sexy image in Chahat... all about?

It's not a sexy image. I know that the promos are looking very hot. Obviously Rashmi, the character I play, is very glamourous and sexy. It's a film about the youth of today and how they want to make it big in the glam world.


So it portrays the youth getting what they want in the glam world any which way...

Not necessarily. At least mine is not a character like that. It's a very positive character. She has her values intact, but she's a modern Indian girl. She won't mind wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

Are you trying to create a new dare-all-bare-all' image that will have producers queuing at your door?

No, I'm not trying to do that and producers have always been queuing at my door,

It may not have been a conscious move, but somewhere at the back of your mind you know that an image like Chahat.. ' works in today's day.

I just liked the story and the director's conviction, that's why I did it. I'm not doing it because the 'image' works in today's day.

What are your other projects?

Jaane Hoga Kya with Bipasha Basu and Aftab Shivdasani; Sukh , Govinda's home production and Chehra with Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea are ready for release. Also, I'm shooting for Sauda , and two other films.

And is there the 'new' you in these films?

None of these films have the image of the 'new me', but they are not totally Indian either.

So you are going back to your old image?

Yes. It's good to keep the audience excited by changing your looks.
